LixIA — Mining R&D
Reading the heap through the process.
Research on copper heap leaching and bioleaching: inferring heap and pad conditions from process information, and exploring how observability and decision support could help hydrometallurgical teams reason under uncertainty.
Research axes
Four lines of inquiry.
- 01
Heap leaching & bioleaching
Studying how copper heap leaching and bioleaching operations behave as processes, and which questions matter most to the people who run them.
- 02
Inferred heap & pad conditions
Exploring how conditions inside a heap or on a pad could be inferred from indirect process information, with uncertainty made explicit.
- 03
Carbonate gangue effects
One focused research thread on how carbonate gangue may influence solution chemistry and acid behaviour, framed as questions to study.
- 04
Observability & decision support
Researching how process information could be organised so that engineers can review, question and decide, with people in control.
Research workstreams
Conceptual, not completed.
The following are conceptual workstreams under consideration. None has produced validated results, and none is a deployed system, site pilot or commercial product.
Carbonate gangue study framing
A conceptual framing of how carbonate-bearing gangue could affect leaching behaviour, and which observations would be needed to study it properly.
Inferred heap-state concept
An early idea for estimating likely heap and pad conditions from indirect process information, reported together with how uncertain the estimate is.
Decision-support review concept
A concept for presenting process information and open questions to engineers as a review aid, leaving decisions with the operating team.
